Our History

We have  been providing a safe swimming environment for over 45 years.  The first meeting of our club was on 28 September 1973; a few months later and our members were in the pool and we have been supporting local people in the same pool since then.

We established ourselves as a registered charity - The Disabled Swimmers Club (Bournemouth) - in April 1975.  On 17 November 2016 we changed our name to AQUABILITY.

When we started, there was no Disability Act or Equality Act.  Over the years, we have been making swimming accessible to hundreds of members through changes in laws and attitudes.  We have adapted and moved with the times.

What hasn't changed since those early days are that we are continuing to provide a fun, sociable environment for our members and we don't plan on going anywhere any time soon.
